The Alpine Ski World Championships 2025 in Saalbach, Austria, were historic for the Swiss team. With a total of 13 medals, the Swiss athletes returned more successful than ever in this millennium to Switzerland. The audience in front of the screens in Switzerland was also enthusiastic: For example, an average of over 1.1 million viewers watched Franjo von Allmen's gold run in the downhill on RSI, RTS, or SRF.
Home World Championships live and exclusive on SRG channels
The next Alpine Ski World Championships will be held in Switzerland for the tenth time in 2027. Thanks to an agreement between SRG and FIS, both the 2027 event in Crans-Montana and the 2029 event in Narvik, Norway, can be watched live and exclusively on RSI, RTR, RTS, and SRF channels and platforms.
"I'm very pleased that we can show the home World Championships in Crans-Montana live on high-reach free TV in all language regions to the broad sports-interested Swiss public, which corresponds to the core idea of public media service," says Roland Mägerle, Head of SRF Sport and Business Unit Sport SRG. As the host broadcaster, SRG is also responsible for producing the world signal of the home World Championships: "With the production, SRG makes a valuable contribution to the global media presence of these World Championships in our own country."
Other winter sports World Championships also on SRG
The agreement with FIS includes live and highlight rights to various other snow sports World Championships until 2029. This includes the Nordic Ski World Championships in the three disciplines of cross-country, ski jumping, and combined, as well as the World Championships in snowboarding, freestyle, and freeskiing. Thus, the 2027 snowboarding, freestyle, and freeski World Championships in Montafon, Austria, close to the border, will also be broadcast live on SRG platforms and channels.
