The Migros Valais Cooperative hands over the keys of its supermarket in Sion - Le Ritz from January 19 to February 7, 2026, to 21 apprentices. During this period, the young adults bear full responsibility for the operation of the branch and manage all processes from logistics to cashier operations. Similarly, Migros Vaud hands over the management of its Chavannes – Les Cèdres branch from February 2 to 14, 2026, to its 18 apprentices. While similar initiatives occur annually in Migros cooperatives, never before has Migros implemented such a comprehensive project.
A 360-degree Experience
This year, Migros is not limiting the initiative to sales alone: apprentices from logistics, transport, and decoration are also participating. They collaboratively experience all aspects of branch management, from the distribution center to delivery, customer service, sales promotion and inventory management, to ordering, shelf maintenance, and floor design. The young adults are supported by experienced staff, ensuring they receive advice and assistance at all times.
"We are very proud of this initiative," said Mario Caldelari, Managing Director of Migros Valais. "It demonstrates our commitment to vocational training and our goal to prepare young people for the leadership roles of tomorrow. Their motivation and creativity inspire the entire Migros Valais team." Migros Vaud also places importance on enhancing future-proof professions. "By entrusting full management of the supermarket to the apprentices, we purposefully develop their skills and strengthen their education," explains Anton Chatelan, Managing Director of the Migros Vaud Cooperative. "We aim to train young people ready to face the challenges of the rapidly changing retail sector."
