With the internet, the digital revolution began, social media fundamentally changed our communication, and now artificial intelligence is shaping the next great technological upheaval. AI is now found in search engines, translation and transcription programs, image and video generators, voice assistants, autonomous vehicles, or personalised recommendations on streaming platforms and social networks. At the same time, it is increasingly entering areas such as medicine, research, education, security, or media production.
Artificial Intelligence is also of high relevance to SRG
SRG, as a media company, is also intensely exploring the opportunities and challenges of AI and is already using appropriate tools in various areas, such as automatic transcriptions, content analysis, or more efficient processing of audio and video material. Here, AI is meant to support journalistic quality, not replace it. Transparency, clear rules, and human responsibility remain central prerequisites for the use of AI.
In view of the rapid developments in AI and its increasing importance for the media industry, the Swiss Media Publishers' Association (VSM), together with partner associations and media companies, including SRG, has developed an industry-wide AI code of conduct, which was presented at the Swiss Media Forum in early May. This creates common principles for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in Swiss journalism.
From Autonomous Driving to the Protection of Endangered Species
Against this backdrop, the SRG streaming platform Play Suisse presents a special collection on the subject of AI. The selection highlights different perspectives on the opportunities, risks, and societal impacts of the technology. Film fans and AI enthusiasts can look forward to a total of 16 exciting films and documentaries.
Among the highlights of the collection is the documentary "Elon Musk Unveiled - The Tesla Experiment", which takes a critical look behind the scenes of Tesla's race for autonomous driving. Former employees, whistleblowers, and affected individuals report on hidden problems and the risks of a technological race where innovation and responsibility do not always keep pace. "Made to Measure" examines through an experiment how platforms work with our data and how personalised advertising and algorithmic recommendations influence our digital behaviour.
The RTS report "L'IA, mon confident mortel" in turn highlights the dark sides of AI chatbots and explores the question of what psychological risks can arise when AI increasingly becomes an emotional confidant. A completely different perspective is offered by "Artenschutz 2.0" from SRF Einstein. The film shows how researchers worldwide use AI and modern technologies to protect endangered species and find new ways in species conservation.
