Whether it's for commuting to work, visiting relatives, or during leisure time, many people use their car daily. However, only a few consider how much they actually spend on their trips. You can only create a reliable and realistic budget plan if you know the actual costs incurred. This estimate is also a great help for those considering purchasing a new vehicle but struggling to plan the expected costs.
Many costs need to be considered.
According to TCS calculations, the costs per kilometre in 2024 averaged 76 cents. However, they can vary significantly depending on the vehicle and daily usage. Numerous factors must be considered, which differ for each vehicle: the purchase price, depreciation, fuel consumption, costs for charging electric vehicles, annual mileage, insurance costs, regional taxes, and parking fees.
A new, quick tool.
With the TCS kilometre cost calculator, you can conveniently calculate the costs for your vehicle. The new online tool replaces the USB stick used for almost 20 years and impresses with a more affordable rate. It is cheaper and much more practical than the previous solution. Thanks to the platform, users can easily compare multiple vehicles, save their data, and use features such as multi-year comparisons.
Valuable support for individuals and SMEs.
Budget management is a breeze with the online tool. It not only allows tracking of past and current expenses but also helps plan future costs - for both current vehicles and future purchases. This ensures you maintain an overview of accumulated expenses in the long run. Smaller companies with only a few vehicles benefit from a valuable tool for efficiently managing their fleet costs. The calculator is also handy for employees who use their personal vehicle for work and need to report travel expenses. In summary, the public can better estimate expenditures and plan vehicle purchases more effectively. With this modern and comprehensive tool, TCS continues its mission to offer its members concrete solutions to better understand and manage the costs associated with mobility.

Based on the data from the TCS online kilometre cost calculator, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) has completely revamped its online consumption catalogue (www.verbrauchskatalog.ch). This platform allows comparisons of all new car models in Switzerland based on consumption, CO2 emissions, energy efficiency, and operating costs. It also offers the ability to simulate climate and energy balances over the entire lifecycle of vehicles. With interactive tools and continuously updated data, this catalogue is a valuable resource for supporting consumers in the purchasing process.
