06.03.2026, BVZ Holding AG with Gornergrat Railway (GGB) and Matterhorn Gotthard Railway (MGBahn) achieved a new record year in 2025. Revenue increased to CHF 230.3 million (+6.6%) and profit to CHF 34.9 million (+52.1%). The Board of Directors proposes a distribution of CHF 30 per share (previous year CHF 18).

Outstanding figures across all business sectors

Significant increase in proposed dividends

Further investments in offer development and quality

The private sector of the BVZ Group generated a revenue of CHF 113.4 million (+11.2%) and a profit of CHF 29.9 million (+24.6%) last year. Particular standouts were the two tourist flagships: Gornergrat recorded with 863,866 travelers (+6.8%) and a revenue of CHF 54.9 million (+16.6%) the best result in its history. The differentiated pricing and offer strategy, as well as the further development of Gornergrat as a premium nature experience mountain, contributed significantly to this success. The Glacier Express, classified under other services, also set a new record with 313,863 guests.

The real estate business field achieved a profit of more than CHF 2 million (+84.9%) for the first time, offering promising prospects for the future. The legally binding building permit for the second phase of the residential and commercial property Andermatt Central and a new building rights contract in Brig strengthen the long-term growth perspective.

"The result confirms our strategic direction with a focus on responsible, qualitative growth," comments Chairman of the Board Patrick Z’Brun on the result and future perspective.

Investments in the future

BVZ Holding has high liquidity, which is specifically used for renewals of railway infrastructure and rolling stock, as well as value- generating projects, according to the investment plan. A focus is on increasing the attractiveness of the Gornergrat. Additionally, opportunities in the real estate sector should be seized. In the private sector alone, investments of CHF 170 million are planned by 2032.

The liquidity is put into perspective by the needs in the public service sector of the MGBahn. This applies in particular to the procurement of the ORION train sets, the largest rolling stock investment in the company's history with a volume of approximately CHF 420 million, as well as extensive investments in the operational infrastructure in Andermatt.

The mobility business field – reliable public service deliveries

In the mobility business field with regional traffic between Disentis or Göschenen and Zermatt, the car transport at the Furka, and the freight transports between Visp and Zermatt, revenue increased by 7.9% to CHF 86.2 million. For the traffic services contracted by the public authorities, MGBahn received additional subsidies in the form of contributions totaling CHF 30.7 million in 2025.

Regional traffic benefited from an uninterrupted growth in demand in public transport – for the first time, over 10 million guests traveled with the MGBahn. At the Furka car transport, 285,508 transported vehicles meant the second-highest number ever recorded, and in freight transport, the volume rose by +6.1% to 45,504 tonnes (+2,613 t).

Dividend and elections to the Board of Directors

For the dividend distribution to the shareholders of BVZ Holding AG, only the results from the private sector are decisive. Due to the positive development of results, the Board of Directors proposes a dividend of CHF 30 per share (previous year: CHF 18) for the fiscal year 2025. Furthermore, the Board of Directors requests the re-election of the current board members and, as already announced in December, the election of Daniel F. Lauber from Zermatt.

Changes in the Executive Board

The Board of Directors has newly appointed Xavier Gertschen (48) to the Executive Board of the BVZ Group and Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. Xavier Gertschen has been with the company since 2006, initially leading the controlling department. Later he took over the corporate development management and joined the extended Executive Board. In his future role, he will be responsible for strategy, innovation, data, as well as quality management and safety.

Outlook – Confidently into the future

The high demand dynamics in the national and international travel business and the strong positioning as a central feeder for the Zermatt-Matterhorn and Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis destinations offer a promising basis for the future. Risk factors such as extreme weather events, geopolitical crises, such as currently in the Middle East, or economic downturns will continue to be closely monitored.

CEO Egon Gsponer is optimistic overall: "Thanks to the forward-looking investment strategy and a stable financial base, the group is well equipped to continue seizing opportunities in tourism and regional mobility." The group continues to focus on sustainable, qualitative growth and the expansion of its nature-oriented premium offering at the Gornergrat.
