17.12.2025, After 17 years of operation in the Canton of Valais, the company BASF will leave the production site in Monthey and hand it over to Catexel. This transition marks the end of a significant era.

Employees are cautiously optimistic and demand long-term guarantees

Atena (the association of BASF employees) and the personnel association Employees Switzerland are cautiously optimistic. They believe this acquisition could represent a strategic opportunity to better market the products of the Monthey site, which are fully part of the core business of the acquiring company Catexel (The International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG)).

If the expectations of the employees are met, this takeover opens up new perspectives for development and growth for both the employees and the regional economy.

Hence, the association of BASF employees and Employees Switzerland call on Catexel to provide clear guarantees that go beyond the legal minimum, in the spirit of a long-term adherence to existing commitments, particularly regarding the participation plan and social achievements.

“We have expectations of Catexel: The current jobs and working conditions must be preserved at the Swiss site,“ emphasises Pascal Seiler, President of Atena, “it's about ensuring trust and stability.”

For Employees Switzerland, this acquisition must not go at the expense of the site and the employees of BASF Monthey. The association urges Catexel to invest sustainably in production facilities in Valais.

Good working conditions must remain

The employees of BASF Switzerland currently benefit from good working conditions thanks to a company agreement, signed particularly with Employees Switzerland. We advocate for a constructive and sustainable social partnership.

This agreement and the accompanying dialogue must be maintained beyond the legal deadline of one year after the acquisition, to ensure the continuation of social achievements and the trust of the teams.

Likewise, employees expect a solid pension plan that reflects the conditions applicable at BASF.
