27.11.2025, The timetable change on December 14, 2025, brings improvements and changes to the existing BLS network. Additionally, there will be a half-hourly service between Biel/Bienne and Basel thanks to the new direct connection of BLS via Delémont.

From the timetable change on December 14, 2025, BLS will operate a new service between Biel/Bienne and Basel SBB. The new IR56 line Biel/Bienne–Basel, together with the IC 51 Lausanne– Basel provided by SBB, will offer an attractive half-hourly service with stops in Grenchen Nord, Moutier, Delémont, and Laufen. On this route, BLS will introduce new MIKA trains. The 105-meter-long vehicles offer level entry, spacious multifunctional zones, large panoramic windows with optimized mobile signal reception, and power outlets at almost every seat. Additionally, the trains feature a bistro area with self- service machines.

On the existing BLS network, the timetable change brings the following improvements:

- In the Lucerne area, trains between Lucerne and Willisau will operate half-hourly until 11 PM. Additionally, travelers between Zell and Lucerne will have two additional morning connections. The S77 line, which currently operates between Lucerne and Willisau, will be extended to Zell during this time. This improvement is possible because Zell station is being modernized and will gain a second platform.

- Additional trains to Simmental: To provide more space for leisure travelers between Bern and Zweisimmen, BLS will occasionally operate an additional direct train. This train will run in the morning from Bern to Zweisimmen and in the evening back again, operating during weekends, Christmas holidays, and Bern sports week. Additionally, from Solothurn via Burgdorf and Konolfingen, there will be a new direct morning connection to Simmental during weekends in the ski and hiking season.

- Because the departure times in Kerzers could be slightly adjusted, the stop Muntelier-Löwenberg between Kerzers and Murten will be served more frequently from December 14, 2025. The S52 will additionally serve Muntelier-Löwenberg on request along with the S5, thereby ensuring a half-hourly service in the direction of Bern. Additionally, the S35 between Kerzers and Lyss will regularly serve Kerzers Papiliorama during off-peak hours.

Stop at Stöckacker will be lifted on December 14, 2025

As part of the construction work in the western part of Bern, train operations in the Stöckacker / Holligen / Weyermannshaus area will be limited over the next two years. The Stöckacker stop will be lifted on December 14, 2025, and will be replaced long-term by the new station 'Europaplatz Nord'. This station will be operational in December 2027, providing better access to development focus areas. Until construction is complete, travelers are advised to use the Europaplatz, Bümpliz Nord stations, or urban public transport as alternatives.

More construction work at night

Further construction work in the greater Bern area will affect train connections during off-peak hours. Next year, more construction will take place after 11 PM from Sunday to Thursday, leading to changes in the schedule or replacement with buses on some lines. BLS advises passengers to check the online timetable before traveling.

We also run the western lines of the Central Switzerland S-Bahn. BLS is also established in tourist transport. Our offerings include rail routes through the Emmental, the Jura, the Seeland, the Simmental, to Interlaken as well as over the Lötschberg mountain line.

In addition to operating various rail lines, BLS maintains a 420-kilometer-long railway network and 119 stations and stops. The centerpiece of the BLS infrastructure is the Lötschberg axis with the 34.6-kilometer-long Lötschberg base tunnel and the 60-kilometer-long mountain line from Frutigen to Brig.

The Lötschberg base tunnel, opened in 2007, is one of the world's most modern rail tunnels. The mountain line was opened in 1913 as an impressive pioneering construction.
