In the legally prescribed consultation process, all employees had the opportunity from November 25 to December 14 to submit proposals on how dismissals could be avoided or their consequences mitigated. After careful examination of the proposals submitted on various topics, the consultation process did not result in a reduction in job cuts. Among other things, the review of the proposals showed that many suggestions align with the strategic directions from the Enavant transformation project.
The details of the job cuts will be specified in the coming weeks and months. During this time, the SRG's social plan will apply. A third of the job cuts, roughly 300 of the total 900 full-time positions, will be implemented as part of the ongoing cost-saving program. This job reduction has already been consulted on and is in progress. By 2029, a further 600 positions will now be cut. Layoffs are unavoidable. Part of the 600 positions will be reduced through attrition and retirements.
The SRG faces major challenges. It must save approximately 270 million CHF by 2029, in part because the Federal Council has decided to reduce the media fee. The first step in reducing the media fee takes place in January 2027. Therefore, SRG must already save 125 million by then.
From April 1, additional areas will work according to the new organizational model In June of last year, the SRG's management informed how it intends to tackle the transformation with Enavant (see press release The SRG is repositioning itself and moving closer together). In November 2025, the SRG took a first important step in concretizing these plans: it created, among other things, new structures and processes to strengthen future cooperation across all regions and reduce the management board (see press release SRG specifies transformation plans and the planned job cuts).
From April 1, additional areas of the SRG will work according to the new organizational model announced in the summer, which emerges from the Enavant transformation project: Following the HR and finance departments, which have been organized according to this model since January 2026, the departments of Offer, Operations, Staff, and Communication & Public Affairs will also be managed uniformly SRG-wide. The employees of these departments will remain active in their respective regions but will work as part of the SRG group, thus contributing to more coherence and synergies between locations.
