As the first system gastronomy in Switzerland, Coop Restaurants will be awarded a star from the 'Bio Cuisine' label across the nation by Bio Suisse. The requirement for this accolade is an organic share of at least 30 percent. Annually, over 150 tonnes of organic vegetables are prepared in the 159 Coop Restaurants. In addition, there are numerous other organic products from a wide range of categories. The basis for this calculation is the purchase value of food and beverages. By focusing on organic products, the restaurants are actively contributing to Coop's overarching sustainability strategy.
Promoting Swiss Organic Farms 'Together with Bio Suisse, we demonstrate that a high proportion of organic products is also successfully achievable in system gastronomy. We are proud of this,' emphasizes Philipp Wyss, Chairman of the Executive Board of Coop. Guests at Coop Restaurants benefit from sustainably produced foods with the highest organic standards at a very good value for money. At the same time, Coop supports Swiss organic farms with this commitment and aids the transition to sustainable organic production.
The Label for Sustainable Gastronomy The 'Bio Cuisine' label was launched in 2023 by Bio Suisse for gastronomic establishments. It stands for authentic taste and high quality of organic products in gastronomy. Depending on the proportion of organic products, one, two, or three stars are awarded, making the sustainable effort visible to guests. Commenting on Coop's commitment, Urs Brändli, President of Bio Suisse, says: 'Once again, Coop is a trendsetter and role model. The Coop Restaurants exemplarily show how taste and consideration for nature can be combined in gastronomy.'
Coop and Bio Suisse: A Longstanding Partnership Coop has always been a proponent of the Bio Suisse label and its stringent organic guidelines, which are among the strictest worldwide. The partnership between Bio Suisse and Coop commenced over 30 years ago with the launch of Coop's own brand Naturaplan. With great dedication, they have since jointly promoted organic consumption in Switzerland. Their vision is to make environmentally and animal-friendly produced food easily accessible to everyone. This commitment has significantly advanced organic farming in Switzerland; since 1993, the number of Swiss organic farms has more than quintupled. With 'Bio Cuisine', Coop and Bio Suisse are expanding this commitment further, reinforcing the importance of organic products for gastronomy.
