09.07.2026, Zurich - Cybersecurity is a major investment area for Swiss companies: The majority plan to increase their spending on IT security and data protection. The reason is urgent: 53 percent report already being affected by AI-based cyber attacks. This is shown by the new Digital Future Monitor 2026 from DXC, for which 100 executives and specialists in Switzerland were surveyed.

53 percent report AI- based hacker attacks.

54 percent plan to invest more in cybersecurity by 2029 than before.

"Cyber attacks by state actors as well as traditional hacker groups are a top challenge for companies in Switzerland in terms of their competitiveness. Across all industries, 54 percent of companies want to invest 'more' or 'much more' in cybersecurity and data protection," says Dr. Bruno Messmer, General Manager of DXC Technology Switzerland. "As a result, cyber defense is on par with investment in AI expansion in IT departments, identified by 50 percent of decision-makers as an enhanced investment field by 2029. However, the group of companies that even want to invest 'much more' in cybersecurity and data protection is nearly twice as large, at 27 percent approval, compared to companies that want to spend 'much more' on AI in IT departments or product development – the rate is only 14 percent."

Status Cyber Defense 2026

In comparison with survey results from 2024, data security in companies shows partial strengthening by 2026: 57 percent of companies now rely on AI to ward off cyber attacks (2024: 50 percent). However, executive floors show stagnation when it comes to mandatory tasks in cyber defense: Currently, 36 percent of companies do not offer their employees regular IT security training, making it significantly easier for criminals to hack colleagues at the workplace (2024: 25 percent). A good quarter of companies, 26 percent, do not have an emergency plan for hacker attacks (2024: 31 percent). Anyone who has experienced a corporate IT shutdown knows the critical role such a roadmap plays for quick and professional response. 31 percent of companies lack a security situation overview to stay up to date on current cyber risks.

Cybersecurity by 2029

"Swiss companies would be well advised to pay the highest attention to the threats posed by powerful AI models," says Dr. Bruno Messmer. "The IT vulnerabilities recently uncovered by the language model Claude Mythos give cause to rigorously examine and protect their own systems."

As the survey shows, the Swiss economy has fundamentally recognized the key role of cybersecurity for its future strategies: 91 percent of companies plan to invest the same or more to significantly more in cybersecurity and data protection across all industries. At the same time, around 70 percent of companies cite cyber attacks as an important challenge for their competitiveness. Alongside cost pressure and bureaucracy, the dangers posed by hacker attacks occupy a top spot.

DXC Digital Future Monitor 2026

In March 2026, DXC Technology surveyed a total of N=300 executives and specialists in Switzerland (N=100), Austria (N=100), and Germany (N=100) who decide on the digital transformation of their company. The survey was conducted online by a market research institute based on expert panels.
