Peter Staub, Director of the Department of Architecture, Wood and Construction, opened the ceremonial event at the Biel Congress Centre. Pirmin Jung, Leader of the management team of PIRMIN JUNG Switzerland AG, was invited as the guest speaker. In his keynote titled "Designing Supportively and Responsibly as a Wood Engineer," he presented innovative approaches to sustainable wood construction – including flexible architectural concepts, CO2-optimised building materials, and the significance of circular value chains. His vision for the future of wood construction is a global building culture based on regional, renewable resources, offering scalable solutions for the world climate and enabling a livable future through responsible design. His message to the graduates: "The passion and love for what we do empower us to achieve great things. The future needs professionals like you; you are part of the solution." Special entertainment was provided by host and magician Lorenz Schär, who created magical moments with his tricks. However, the most magical moment of the evening was the awarding of diplomas to the 179 graduates of the Bachelor's programmes in Architecture, Wood Technology, and Civil Engineering, the Master's programmes in Wood Technology and Civil Engineering, and the Higher Technical School Wood Biel.
111 graduates received a Bachelor's degree, and 16 received a Master's degree. This year, five students completed a significant part of their Bachelor's studies in Wood Technology in a second national language, earning a bilingual German-French Bachelor's degree.
The Higher Technical School Wood Biel awarded diplomas as Technician HF Wood Technology to 52 graduates – 15 of them in the specialization Wood Construction German, 14 in the specialization Wood Construction French, 12 in the specialization Carpentry/Interior Design German, and 11 in the specialization Carpentry/Interior Design French. The diplomas of the collaborative "Joint Master of Architecture" programme of the BFH and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland HES-SO were awarded on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the programme at a separate ceremony on 3rd October at Farellhaus Biel.
Special thanks go to KISSLING + ZBINDEN AG and sjb kempter fitze for supporting the aperitif.
We warmly congratulate our graduates on their successful completion of studies! We are especially proud of this year's award winners, who have achieved outstanding performances.
