11.03.2026, Pizol Takes to the Skies Again: An Airbus A320 of Swiss Holiday Airline Edelweiss Air was named 'Pizol' at Zurich Airport yesterday, Tuesday. This is the second time a plane is named after the popular excursion and winter sports mountain in Eastern Switzerland, following the first in 2018.

A delegation from Pizolbahnen AG, consisting of members of the board of directors as well as representatives from management and marketing, visited Zurich Airport on Tuesday morning to personally view the aircraft. The event took place as part of a so-called "Aircraft Visit" and offered guests an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at flight operations.

The Airbus A320 'Pizol' will be deployed on Edelweiss' short and medium-haul routes, connecting numerous destinations within Europe to Switzerland. Thus, it carries the name of the popular mountain region to many countries, making Pizol a flying ambassador for the region.

Already in 2018, an aircraft was named after Pizol and traveled internationally. With the renewed naming, the partnership between the Swiss holiday airline and the Eastern Swiss mountain region is continued.

The visit of the Pizol delegation started at The Circle at Zurich Airport with a joint breakfast and a welcome by Andreas Meier, Head of Corporate Communications at Edelweiss. This was followed by a walk to the aircraft, where guests could experience the new Airbus A320 up close. The event concluded with a joint photo session on the tarmac.

The new aircraft will also be visible at Pizol itself: for the upcoming summer season, the mountain will feature a new Edelweiss bench and an updated signpost displaying the current destinations of the 'Pizol' aircraft. The location will be near the new reservoir, over 2,200 meters above sea level—one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region.

There, guests can expect a unique form of comfort: probably the most beautiful and longest legroom in the world, with views over the Eastern Swiss Alps extending far into the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance.

With the new Airbus A320, Pizol will thus remain visible not only in the mountain world but also high above the clouds.
