05.02.2026, More than 2,800 active connections have already been established in the Kirchberg fibre optic network. As a result, approximately 95% of the population has FTTH access, which will be further expanded in the coming years. The collaboration between Swiss Fibre Net AG (SFN), EnerCom Kirchberg AG, Salt and Sunrise ensures that services from various providers can be accessed via the fibre optic network.

SFN contributes to progressively increasing Switzerland's FTTH network expansion in order to reach the long-term goal of almost complete coverage, benefiting the entire Swiss population.

Milestone

Daniel Alber, project manager of EnerCom Kirchberg AG, says: "The comprehensive fibre optic development in Kirchberg BE was a milestone for our community. As a cooperation partner of Swisscom Switzerland AG, we have created a modern infrastructure that now provides our residents with access to a stable and ultra-fast fibre optic network. This expansion was crucial to keep pace with advancing digitalisation. Thanks to the successful collaboration with Swiss Fibre Net AG (SFN), the telecom providers Salt and Sunrise now also serve the residents of Kirchberg."

Digital Ecosystems

Andreas Waber, CEO of Swiss Fibre Net AG, comments: "It's not just about pure fibre optic networks, but about holistic ecosystems. Consider the planning of a new data centre: without potential fibre optic connectivity, no data centre is built today. Providers of massively scalable cloud computing services, as well as co-location operators, rely on stable networks to deliver their services to the end customer. End customers, whether private or business, only benefit when both sides interact. New technologies such as AI further increase the pressure, and the data volumes are exploding, necessitating powerful fibre optic backbones. Thus, these are not isolated silos of products and offerings, but digital ecosystems."

EnerCom Kirchberg AG

For over 25 years, EnerCom Kirchberg AG - owned by the municipality - has focused on its networks. With its employees, it fulfills the public service mandate and, within the framework of the availability and performance of its facilities, ensures a safe, sufficient, rational, environmentally friendly, and economical supply of electricity and communication services to its customers.

Conclusion of this article: « Even the Rural Kirchberg BE Now Has an Open Fibre Optic Network »

Swiss Fibre Net AG

Switzerland requires a comprehensive FTTH network to meet the increasing bandwidth demands and to maintain its competitive edge in the international location competition.

Economically, the construction and operation of a single FTTH network that is accessible to all telecom providers without discrimination makes sense. This creates fair competition among telecom providers, providing the best performance to end customers at the lowest cost.

Swiss Fibre Net AG is a joint venture of local energy suppliers and cable network operators in Switzerland. It connects the local fibre optic networks of its network partners to the extensive, homogeneous, and open "Swiss Fibre Net" and offers it to nationally active telecom providers without discrimination. Thus, Swiss Fibre Net AG is a guarantor for competition in the telecommunications market.
