Helvetas has been active in Nepal for 70 years and is in contact with its approximately 200 local
employees and partner organizations. According to current information, all Helvetas employees and
partners are safe. However, the house of one employee was swept away by the floods. The exact extent
of the damage is currently being assessed.
"The flood came very suddenly. Our employees and
partners are safe, but we are currently analyzing the impact on the affected communities," says Niraj
Acharya, emergency relief coordinator for Helvetas in Nepal.
Helvetas is closely monitoring the
situation and is currently assessing with local partner organizations what support is necessary for the
affected population.

Helvetas is committed to a just world where all people live self-determined in dignity and safety, using
natural resources sustainably and taking care of the environment. The independent Swiss development
cooperation organization – with separate entities in Germany and the USA – provides help for self-help in
around 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, enabling real change.
Together with partner organizations, Helvetas tackles global challenges on various levels: firstly with
concrete on-site projects, secondly with the dissemination of expertise. Thirdly, Helvetas promotes good
political framework conditions for the poorest and most disadvantaged. Helvetas follows a multi-
stakeholder approach and therefore involves civil society, the state, and the private sector in its
commitment.
Helvetas works in the areas of water, food, and climate, education, economic
development and employment, as well as participation, social cohesion, and women's promotion. After
disasters, Helvetas also provides humanitarian aid. The focus of Helvetas' work lies in rural areas;
however, Helvetas is increasingly active in urban contexts and is orienting its work even more towards the
promotion of youth.
In Switzerland, Helvetas promotes awareness of solidarity and participates in
the development policy dialogue.
