Fondue Alp New in Zurich Altstetten

After more than ten successful years in Zurich's Niederdorf, the Fondue Alp is moving to District 9 for this winter season. The charming pop-up fondue chalet, which has become a staple of Zurich's winter scene in recent years right at the Grossmünster, will welcome its guests from November 14, 2025, at the Werkstadt area near the Elsässer Market Hall in Altstetten.

Due to the change in location, reservations could be accepted a bit later than usual this year – hence, some of the coveted fondue spots that are usually fully booked by September are still available right now. If you want to secure a spot in time, now is your chance.

New location due to construction work on the Grossmünsterplatz

The reason for the location change: construction work on the Grossmünsterplatz makes the previous location unusable this winter. An intensive search for a suitable alternative in the Niederdörfli proved unsuccessful.

"After losing our location at the Grossmünster, finding a suitable solution in Niederdörfli wasn't easy. We are all the more pleased to have found a new, atmospheric spot at the area near the Elsässer Market Hall," says Micha Federle, owner of the Pointbreak Group, which operates the fondue chalet. "We can continue to offer our guests the familiar Alpine feeling right in the middle of Zurich, just in a new district."

Werkstadt Zürich - The Urban Creative Hub

In recent years, the Werkstadt area in Altstetten has developed into a lively meeting place for creative minds and local manufactories. Well- known Zurich brands such as Soeder, ViCAFE, Bierwerk Züri, or Neumühle are based here, giving the area an authentic, urban charm. The fondue alp fits perfectly into this environment with its cozy chalet atmosphere and invites visitors to explore the area before enjoying fondue and discovering new favorite places.

This year, the Fondue Alp opens its doors each evening, ideal for a cozy end to the workday. Whether classic or creative, the diverse fondue variations are lovingly prepared, and for those who prefer something other than cheese, there are delicious alternatives. In the covered outdoor area, the evening can be comfortably initiated with a cup of mulled wine or an aperitif.
