12.11.2025, Following the successful EuroSkills Herning 2025 in September, the focus from tomorrow will be on the next international competitions. Four members of the SwissSkills National Team will compete in different skills against European competitors at the Independent Skills Championships Europe.

At the EuroSkills in September, the young professionals from Switzerland excelled. They won six gold medals, among other accolades, ensuring that Switzerland was the best nation at these European professional championships – an impressive record. Due to resource reasons, not all skills that are part of past and future events of the competition were included at the EuroSkills Herning 2025. Butchery, Architectural Stonemasonry, Digital Construction / BIM, Glass Construction Technology, and Metal Roofing were absent.

To ensure competition in these five skills, SkillsAustria and SwissSkills have taken the initiative and launched the Independent Skills Championships Europe (ISC-E). 'It is important for us to hold these championships with a view to EuroSkills 2027 and 2029, as these skills will also be included there,' says André Burri, Official Delegate of SwissSkills.

Competitions in Chur and Salzburg

The ISC-E kicks off tomorrow in Chur, where the championships in Butchery will take place. Sven Lauber from Meinisberg (BE), who is a certified butcher and won a gold medal at the SwissSkills Championships 2023, will compete for Switzerland. His competition lasts three days.

The following week (from 20 to 22 November, with the awards ceremony on 23 November), the professional championships in the remaining four skills will take place in Salzburg, Austria. The SwissSkills National Team will compete in three of these skills. Renato Sonanini from Rain (LU) will participate in Glass Construction Technology. A certified glazier, he won the gold medal at the SwissSkills Championships 2022. Nicola von Siebenthal from Gstaad (BE) will compete in Metal Roofing. He was recommended for participation by winning the silver medal last year at the SwissSkills Championships. The Swiss team is completed by Tobias Hörler from Rorschacherberg (SG), who also won a silver medal at the SwissSkills Championships 2020. The certified stonemason will compete in Architectural Stonemasonry.

Intensive Preparation

The four competitors who were selected for the ISC-E by their respective professional associations have undergone intensive preparation. In addition to the job-specific preparation, which the participants completed in collaboration with experts and their professional associations and employers, there were also four preparatory events organized by SwissSkills. A total of more than 1000 training hours have been accumulated. Now, the four young professionals can showcase their skills at the ISC-E.
