With the move, a new chapter begins for the Genetic Consultation. The appealing premises offer a contemporary, professional environment for the care of patients with medical-genetic questions and open new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
After around two and a half years of renovation, the Careum Tower was officially inaugurated on 18 November 2025. What was once the nurses' tower of the University Hospital Zurich has become a modern workplace and meeting place for education and health.
"With the new location, we move closer to our patients and clinical partners. The central location and modern infrastructure create ideal conditions for networked, patient-oriented medicine," says Prof. Anita Rauch, Director of the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University of Zurich.
The Genetic Consultation is aimed at individuals and families suspected of having a genetically-related disease for further investigation or with questions about hereditary diseases, genetic risks, and other medical-genetic questions. Referring doctors will also benefit in the future from the more central location and improved accessibility.
The move exclusively affects the Genetic Consultation. The genetic diagnostic laboratories of the institute will remain in the Biotechnopark, Wagistrasse 12 in Schlieren.
