27.02.2026, In the Parisian project 'QG – Quartier Général', DATA architects and THINK TANK architecture combine respectful handling of historical buildings with contemporary usability comfort. External sun protection solutions from Griesser make a central contribution to daylight control, thermal comfort, and architectural clarity.

In the 10th Arrondissement of Paris, the 'QG – Quartier Général' project (206 Rue Lafayette) has carefully redeveloped a multifaceted building complex. The renovation planned by DATA architects & THINK TANK architecture combines office spaces, social housing, and commerce around an elongated courtyard, preserving over 80% of the existing building fabric. The aim was to retain the identity of the 'Faubourgs' while meeting contemporary demands for usage, comfort, and energy efficiency.

The planning approach consistently followed the principle of minimal interventions: Precisely executed measures – including a light double façade, improved accesses, and targeted additions to the façades – enhance the coherence of the ensemble and allow old and new to enter into a subtle dialogue. This sensitive approach to the existing structure was among the factors leading to the award of the 'Équerre d’Argent 2024' (category Lieux d’activités) and the '10+1 Architecture Prize'.

Sun protection as a differentiated tool for comfort and use.
A key role in improving the indoor climate was played by Griesser's external textile sun protection, which was precisely tailored to the different usages and façade situations. The Solozip and Soloscreen façade awnings, each with specific functional emphases, were used. The Swiss company's sun protection solution brings comfort, energy efficiency, and façade design into harmony.

In the more exposed areas of the entire complex, particularly on large façade surfaces of the office sections, Solozip provides reliable and precise sun protection. The fabric, guided laterally in zipper rails, remains stable even at very high wind speeds and allows effective reduction of glare and heat ingress. Simultaneously, the system permits controlled daylight use – a crucial factor for focused work and visual comfort. Soloscreen was primarily used where flexibility, lightness, and finer coordination with the existing façade structure were required, such as in residential uses and courtyard areas. The system gently filters the incoming light, protecting against direct sunlight and contributing to a pleasant indoor climate without visually dominating the façades.

The two innovative systems support the energy optimization of the building complex, reduce cooling requirements, and integrate seamlessly with their clear, restrained design into the heterogeneous appearance of the existing buildings. Thus, the sun protection is not perceived as a technical element but as an integral part of the overall architectural concept.

'In the renovation of the building at 206 Lafayette, we wanted a solution suitable for every use and every façade situation. Griesser’s sun protection systems allowed us a very differentiated approach – from highly wind-resistant sun protection solutions for the work areas to lighter and more flexible ones for the living spaces. This precision perfectly matches our approach of minimal intervention,' said Marine DE LA GUERRANDE, partner at THINK TANK architecture, regarding the choice of sun protection solutions.
