03.11.2026, Weinfelden - The first shovelfuls of earth have been turned: In Weinfelden (TG), Stadler begins construction of a new commissioning centre. Stadler is investing around 40 million Swiss francs in the location and creating approximately 80 new jobs. Starting in 2028, new rail vehicles in Weinfelden will be thoroughly tested and prepared for use.

The productivity of Swiss Stadler plants has steadily increased in recent years. As a result, the existing commissioning centre in Erlen has reached its capacity limits. Since further expansion of the Erlen site is only possible to a limited extent, Stadler is building an additional commissioning centre in Weinfelden, thereby creating further capacity. The new centre, located near the headquarters in Bussnang, enables Stadler to efficiently test and commission new rail vehicles.

The symbolic start of the construction project was made by Stadler officials together with Simon Wolfer, Mayor of Weinfelden, and representatives of the architecture team MP Architektur AG.

Lucius Gerig, Head of Division Switzerland at Stadler: "I am proud that today we are laying the foundation for another chapter of Stadler in Eastern Switzerland. The fact that we need an additional commissioning centre shows how positively our Swiss locations have developed. At the same time, around 80 new jobs are being created in the region with this investment, which particularly pleases me."

Simon Wolfer, Mayor of Weinfelden: "We recognize the importance of Stadler regarding value creation in Central Thurgau and beyond. We are pleased that we could pave the way for this project by selling land to Stadler for the test track facility."

The new commissioning centre includes a hall approximately 210 metres long, 35 metres wide, and 16 metres high, with four hall tracks and one outdoor track. Office spaces, meeting rooms, and recreational areas, as well as work and storage spaces for the finishing and painting teams, are also included. Additionally, electrified test tracks with a total length of 750 metres will be constructed immediately north of the hall.

The test tracks are an essential part of the commissioning process. On them, vehicles can be tested and driven for the first time. These tests are a prerequisite for subsequent test runs on the public rail network.

Stadler is investing around 40 million Swiss francs in the new centre. The additional positions mainly arise in commissioning, especially for specialised electricians and automation technicians. Commissioning is planned for the first half of 2028.
