Helvetas recorded total revenue of 172.6 million francs for 2025 - the highest result in its over 70- year history. Thanks to broad support from the public and philanthropy, Helvetas reached a new donation record: private donations, legacies, and contributions from foundations and companies amounted to 47.4 million francs last year.
The remaining funds mainly come from mandates and programme contributions from governmental donors, particularly from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), but also from the European Union (EU) and institutions from other states.
Despite the positive outcome, the financial situation remains tense: the decreed cuts in governmental funds for development cooperation will become even more noticeable in the coming years.
Improved impact measurement strengthens transparency Helvetas uses donations purposefully, effectively, and economically, and wants to know exactly how its work impacts. Recognised by Zewo as a trustworthy organisation, Helvetas measures the impact of its work with an organisation-wide system that has been recently refined. By introducing clearly defined indicators, the impact of all projects can be recorded more structured and assessed more comparably. Data collection is carried out through systematic surveys and on-site assessments. This strengthens Helvetas' work based on reliable data and enables a particularly in-depth evaluation of its projects.
Selected projects are also accompanied by independent scientific studies to make reliable statements about long-term effects. Additional cost-benefit analyses also demonstrate the concrete economic benefits for the people Helvetas works with.
In the new measurement system, the people reached by Helvetas are recorded more differentiated, allowing a clearer distinction between directly and indirectly supported people. Directly reached individuals can, for example, improve their income through vocational training. Their families also benefit indirectly, for example, through better access to healthy food, education, or health services.
In 2025, Helvetas reached 6.9 million people directly with its 295 development projects in 35 countries worldwide. Additionally, around 29 million people benefited indirectly from the projects.
Together with Helvetas:
- Around 3.8 million people received better basic services - such as access to clean water, sanitation, healthy nutrition, or adaptations to climate change.
- More than 1 million people benefited from vocational training or economic support.
- Over 6,700 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were strengthened.
- More than 800,000 people were able to improve their social and political participation.
- Around 1.2 million people were accompanied and supported in the context of safe migration.
- More than 600,000 people received assistance in humanitarian crises.
