Volunteer work connects people and fosters cohesion. In Switzerland, around 21% of all individuals volunteer with organizations, institutions, or associations. Volunteers also make an indispensable contribution to animal welfare at FOUR PAWS in Switzerland. Over 2,000 supporters are already part of the growing community, which is regularly informed about participation opportunities. The International Volunteer Day is a good occasion to focus on those who dedicate their leisure time to a better world.
Diverse Engagement
Volunteers are important ambassadors for the animals: They support actions and events, promote campaigns, collect signatures for petitions and initiatives, write letters to the editor, or educate the public about animal cruelty-free alternatives. Whether at events, information stands, conducting research in the retail sector, or through online activities – every helping hand counts and contributes to progress in animal welfare.
Christoph Maurer has been committed to FOUR PAWS in Switzerland for over 10 years. He especially appreciates that through teamwork, they can help animals. "Every commitment is unforgettable and has made me happy." The topics he engages in range from "No Wild Animals in Circuses" to "Real Fur – Really Bad for the Image" up to the Arosa Bear Sanctuary, where bears from poor captivity conditions receive a habitat suited to their species. He considers the "Stop Foie Gras" campaign particularly important. "I find it great that FOUR PAWS takes a strong stand against the cruel production of foie gras and advocates for the poor ducks and geese."
A Strong Community
"This year, volunteers have supported us in numerous actions and played a decisive role in making our animal welfare campaigns even more effective. They were also present at our anniversary event celebrating 25 years of FOUR PAWS in Switzerland and contributed to a successful and unforgettable day alongside our team," explains Sarah Bartels, Volunteer Coordinator at FOUR PAWS Switzerland. "Without the support of volunteers, it would be difficult to give animal welfare the attention it needs."
Those wishing to contribute to animal welfare themselves can sign up for the volunteer newsletter on the website www.vier-pfoten.ch/freiwilligenarbeit and will then be informed about future participation opportunities.
