The opening concert by the Camerata Salzburg under Antonello Manacorda on 31 July was dedicated to icons of the repertoire with Ludwig van Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor K. 466 (soloist: Lukas Sternath).
Following an entertaining performance by the Septura Brass Septet from London, with Swiss accordionist Srdjan Vukasinovic on Swiss National Day, the film "Amadeus" was shown in a packed concert hall. Thanks to the live music played and sung by the City Light Symphony Orchestra and the Zürcher Sing-Akademie under the direction of Kevin Griffiths, it became a true experience.
Other highlights in the programme included the two sold-out recitals by Sir András Schiff (the second together with pianist Chloé Jiyeong Mun), the 1st Piano Concerto by Tchaikovsky with soloist Boris Giltburg, and Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante with Veronika Eberle (violin) and Timothy Ridout (viola). The evening of the Welsh baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, ranging from folk songs to opera arias, and the concert "Handel’s Heroines" by the La Cetra Barockorchester Basel under recorder player Maurice Steger with the brilliant Swiss soprano Chelsea Marilyn Zurflüh received standing ovations.
The 2026 festival edition also marks the end of David Whelton's tenure as Artistic Director, who gratefully looked back on eight fulfilling festival years in Klosters in his speech.
Exciting Debuts 2027 and the "Klosters Music Violin Summit"
The new director of Klosters Music, Christoph Müller, presents the 9th edition (30 July to 8 August 2027) featuring violinists Vilde Frang and Bomsori Kim, pianists Fazil Say and Bruce Liu, as well as soprano Sonya Yoncheva, artists appearing in Klosters for the first time. Other international top stars from the classical scene such as Sol Gabetta, Giovanni Antonini, Sir András Schiff, and Andreas Ottensamer, along with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, the Kammerorchester Basel, and the Münchener Kammerorchester, underline the musical excellence of the festival.
To mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death, the festival will open with his Symphonies No. 8 and No. 9. Beethoven's Violin Concerto and the cello and piano sonatas will also be heard alongside Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's "Reformation Symphony" and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Concerto K. 488.
With the Klosters Music Violin Summit (2 to 6 August 2027), Christoph Müller launches a new international platform for violin making, science, and music, providing audiences with unique insights into the world of violin making.
