When a person receives a cancer diagnosis, it's often not only their world that stands still but also that of their family and entire surroundings. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Switzerland and is responsible for about a quarter of all deaths. At the same time, it's estimated that around 450,000 so-called 'cancer survivors' live in Switzerland — people living with and after a cancer diagnosis.
Raising awareness and strengthening health literacy
The KPT health insurance and the Swiss Cancer League are entering a multi-year strategic partnership to bring more public attention to cancer in Switzerland and emphasize the importance of early detection and prevention. This partnership establishes a common basis for reliable information, concrete guidance, and additional support for those affected and their relatives.
In the coming months and years, KPT and the Swiss Cancer League plan joint projects, information offerings, and awareness campaigns. They aim to reach people in various life situations and further strengthen the population's health literacy.
Mirjam Lämmle, CEO of the Swiss Cancer League: 'Cancer almost always strikes unexpectedly, and its effects go far beyond medical treatment. With KPT as a strategic partner, we can reach even more people with reliable knowledge, discuss prevention and early detection, and directly involve those affected and their relatives.'
Thomas Harnischberg, CEO of KPT Health Insurance: 'As a cooperative health insurer, we take responsibility for our insured and society. This responsibility does not start with the payment of health costs, but with information, early detection, and prevention. We are convinced that together with the Swiss Cancer League, we can create concrete added value.'
KPT is the first strategic partner of the Swiss Cancer League. Both organizations share the goal of consistently strengthening prevention and early detection and ensuring people in challenging life stages are not left alone.
