25.09.2025, On 22nd September 2025, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz began the comprehensive renovation of all the greens on the 18-hole championship course at the Bad Ragaz Golf Club. With an investment of 2.5 million Swiss Francs, approximately 10,000 square meters of new, sustainable playing surfaces will be created. The full reopening of the new greens is dependent on weather conditions and is scheduled for late July to early August 2026.

Innovative Construction Method for Play Quality and Environment

From the end of September 2025, the 18 greens of the championship course as well as the putting green will be completely rebuilt. "Our over 50-year-old greens today require significant manual maintenance to meet the demands of our members, guests, and high-level tournaments—particularly due to outdated substructures and drainage systems," explains Ralph Polligkeit, Director of Golf & Sports at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. After this renovation, golfers, greenkeepers, and the environment will all benefit, as the new grass varieties require less water, fewer fungicides and fertilizers, and are easier to maintain than the previous ones. The facility will thus have completely uniform greens and can also be maintained more sustainably. Furthermore, it will elevate the golfing experience for guests to the next level in quality while simultaneously making a significant contribution to sustainability in golfing. The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is setting new standards in golfing and becoming a pioneer in the region.

Careful Planning

"I sincerely thank project leader Ralph Polligkeit and the entire team for their extraordinary commitment and thorough preparation. Golf holds central importance for our resort, and I am therefore delighted that with this project, we are laying the foundation for providing our guests and members with the highest quality in the future," says Dr. Klaus Tschütscher, CEO of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. The project has been carefully prepared over the years. For the past three years, new test greens have repeatedly been established to determine the optimal quartz sand mixture and the best grass varieties. Based on these findings, an innovative Agrostis stolonifera mix, which is particularly resistant to stress and diseases, will be sown from 20th April 2026. In Bad Ragaz, there is optimistic anticipation for the coming months, and they are counting on favorable weather conditions to successfully complete this groundbreaking golf project on schedule.

Tradition and Future

Originally "based" in the Heulöser area, the Bad Ragaz Golf Club, founded in 1905, received its current 18-hole championship course on the southern edge of the village in 1957/58. Over the past decades, regular investments have been made in the course, including a new tree concept, the opening of watercourses, and the modernization of bunkers. Now, with the 'Green Renovation' mega- project, a comprehensive renewal of play and tournament quality follows. Combined with an overnight stay, golf becomes a holistic experience of sport, relaxation, and cuisine.

Play Operation During the Renovation Phase

- From 22nd September 2025: Holes 1 to 11 and hole 18 remain open, and tee times are regularly bookable.
- End of October 2025 to end of April 2026: Golf course and driving range remain closed.
- From early May 2026: Play operation on temporary greens.
- Expected reopening of the golf course with the new greens from late July to early August 2026.
