In the southeast of Amsterdam, construction of a large new office complex for a leading Dutch financial institution has been underway since spring 2024, with completion scheduled for 2027. The multifunctional project, named 'Linden', is being built on the Bijlmerdreef and aims to become a forward-looking working environment embodying modern urban design and sustainability principles.
High-Performance Crane Solutions for Urban Construction
On site are two Liebherr 550 EC-H 20 and one Liebherr 630 EC-H 40 High-Top Tower Cranes operated by Dura Vermeer Materieel BV. Long-time distribution partner Van der Spek Vianen B.V. assisted in selecting the cranes, which are essential for operations in confined urban environments due to their high load capacity and long reach.
The EC-H series is designed for demanding high-rise and infrastructure projects. Its modular tower system facilitates the efficient realization of different hook heights, while powerful lifting and slewing gears ensure stable and precise load handling even at great heights. Thanks to fast and straightforward assembly procedures, the cranes were quickly erected, keeping the project on schedule from the beginning.
In a city center location with limited storage space and narrow access routes, the central positioning of the cranes is an important advantage. The Liebherr EC-H cranes make it possible to cover large work areas from fixed positions. This reduces the number of cranes needed and minimizes potential repositioning.
Precise Handling of Prefabricated Parts
A core task of the Liebherr cranes in this project is to lift and set large prefabricated components, including structural elements and façade sections. These components must be positioned with high accuracy to meet architectural, structural, and quality requirements. With their high load capacities and smooth control systems, the EC-H cranes allow for safe and efficient handling of heavy prefabricated elements. This supports a continuous material flow and helps prevent delays due to rework.
Complex Logistics and Sustainable Building Concept
Designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects and realized by a group of partners, the building covers an area of approximately 50,700 m². It includes flexible office spaces, integrated public gardens, restaurants, sports facilities, a parking garage with around 198 spaces, and extensive bicycle storage options. The building is designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability and climate adaptation. It integrates thermal energy storage, climate-controlled ceilings, photovoltaic modules on the roof, and rainwater retention systems to reduce environmental impact and ensure long-term performance. The surrounding landscape extends existing public green spaces and biodiversity, contributing to the project's overall ecological goal. The design also follows current workplace trends, offering open, transparent spaces that promote collaboration and flexibility. The new build is designed to accommodate thousands of employees in a future-proof and sustainable office environment.
One of the biggest challenges of the project is achieving high production performance on a very limited building site. Adjacent buildings, limited access possibilities, and strict safety regulations require precise coordination of deliveries, crane operations, and site logistics. In this context, the Liebherr EC-H cranes play a central role in optimizing site organization. By combining high lifting performance, quick assembly, and reliable operation, Liebherr's High-Top Tower Cranes make a vital contribution to the successful realization of this challenging urban project in Amsterdam.
