18.02.2026, The Board of Directors of SAK (St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG) has appointed Michael Portmann as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective from 1 August 2026. He succeeds Cornel Loser, who has significantly shaped the SAK with great dedication over many years.


Michael Portmann has extensive professional expertise and long-standing experience in the energy sector. He holds an M.A. in Accounting & Finance from the University of St. Gallen (HSG) as well as an M.A. in International Management (CEMS). Professionally, he spent about 10 years in energy supply at the Axpo Group, including as CFO of the Volkswind Group in Germany, a leading company in the development and operation of onshore wind power plants in Germany, France, Finland, and Romania. In the past three years, he has gained valuable international industry experience as CFO of the Forster Group in St. Gallen.

In these roles, he particularly took responsibility as CFO at Volkswind for shaping and further developing key financial processes to implement growth strategies. At the same time, he successfully implemented strategic development processes and efficiency initiatives in a dynamic environment.

Regarding his new role, Michael Portmann said: "I look forward to contributing my experience in energy supply and industry as CFO to the management team and developing SAK further as a leading energy supply company in Eastern Switzerland, together with the employees."

Personally, the 39-year-old Michael Portmann is closely connected to Eastern Switzerland, actively involved and well-networked, especially in the energy sector, and a family man. He is married and a father of two children, living with his family in Au (SG), in the Rhine Valley.

Chairman of the Board, Marcel Gamweger, acknowledges the achievements of the outgoing CFO: "On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I thank Cornel Loser for his long-standing, exceptionally valuable commitment. He has shaped the financial leadership of SAK over many years and established critical foundations for the future development of our company."
