The segment of small and affordable models is developing particularly dynamically. There are now 31 electric cars available for under 30,000 francs, 15 of which are even priced under 25,000 francs. "A majority of these vehicles achieve a range of over 300 kilometers. This makes fears about the everyday usability of electric cars completely unfounded," says eco-auto leader Gregory Germann.
Additionally, the price differences between electric cars and comparable combustion engines continue to decrease. "Electromobility is therefore attractive to a wide range of the population and increasingly unavoidable," Germann continues.
New awards in the car comparison
With the update, eco-auto has also further developed its rating system. New awards "best overall", "best in class", and "excellence" are now granted. The "best overall" award goes to the model with the highest rating overall and is currently held by the Dacia Spring. In the individual vehicle classes, several new leaders have been crowned "best in class", including models from MINI, Kia, Toyota, and Opel.
Additionally, several vehicles with very high overall ratings receive the "excellence" award. These include, among others, the Renault Twingo E-Tech, the JAC E30X City, and the Hyundai Inster. These models are particularly convincing in terms of efficiency, battery size, and price-performance ratio.
End of combustion engine evaluation
With the current update, eco-auto is taking a strategic step: in the future, only electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids will be evaluated. The evaluation of petrol and diesel cars will be discontinued. Germann explains: "This reflects eco-auto's response to the declining demand for the evaluation of combustion engines and underscores the VCS's clear commitment to electromobility." For those still seeking an environmentally friendly combustion engine vehicle, the vehicle specialist recommends focusing on CO2 emissions. The energy label offers a reliable basis for this.
