26.05.2026, Lucerne - MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme, a globally leading biopharmaceutical company, today inaugurated its new Swiss headquarters 'One Roof' in the Rösslimatt district of Lucerne. Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, Cantonal Councillor Reto Wyss, and Mayor Beat Züsli attended the official ceremony.

MSD underscores its long-term commitment to the Lucerne region and Switzerland with an investment of approximately CHF 60 million. The new headquarters consolidates activities previously spread across three locations in Lucerne and Kriens, creating a modern workplace for around 750 employees focused on collaboration, innovation, and exchange. Additionally, MSD has invested another CHF 20 million in the Schachen (LU) production facility and in Zurich over the past 18 months.

Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider emphasized the close ties between the pharmaceutical industry and Switzerland in her speech: 'Switzerland is among the world's most innovative locations, thanks in part to its robust pharmaceutical industry. Conversely, the industry benefits from our country's advantages. Excellence, reliability, and determination: these are Swiss values and values that also characterize MSD.'

Cantonal Councillor Reto Wyss highlighted the significance for the region: 'For the canton of Lucerne, MSD is an important partner. MSD creates high-quality jobs, brings international connectivity to our region, and makes a significant contribution to the economic strength of our canton.'

Mayor Beat Züsli underlined the importance for the city of Lucerne: 'By consolidating their activities at a single location, MSD becomes one of the largest employers in the city of Lucerne and shapes the dynamic Rösslimatt quarter. MSD thereby makes a significant economic and social contribution to life in the city of Lucerne.'

For MSD, Marc Gailhardou, President Intercontinental Region, stressed the strategic role of the new location: 'With our new headquarters, we strengthen Switzerland as an important hub within our international MSD network. Consolidating our activities under one roof allows us to advance innovation, collaboration, and efficiency globally more precisely and bring scientific advances to patients more rapidly.'

Franz Escherich, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MSD Group in Switzerland, added: 'This new location is an expression of our long-term commitment in Switzerland. By bringing our teams together under one roof, we create an environment that fosters collaboration and refocuses our shared responsibility for patients.'

The new headquarters brings together employees from various sectors under one roof, enhancing cross-sector collaboration and the development of innovative solutions for patients. The building was designed following modern, sustainable standards and supports flexible working forms.

With 'One Roof,' MSD strengthens its role as an employer and partner in Swiss healthcare and as a significant player in the international research and innovation environment. The goal remains to consistently place scientific excellence and innovation in the service of patients.
