23.04.2026, The time has come, the first active connections in the Nidwalden fibre optic network have been released for marketing in Stans and Buochs, each with around 500 connections. Consequently, the first segment of the canton’s population benefits from a new FTTH access. The Cantonal Electricity Works Nidwalden (EWN) is the locally anchored company acting as the builder. Conclusion of this article: « Nidwalden to Receive an Open Fibre Optic Network in the Coming Years »

Swiss Fibre Net AG

Switzerland requires a nationwide FTTH network to meet the increasing bandwidth demands and to remain a top player in international location competition.

The economically sensible approach is building and operating a single FTTH network, which is accessible to all telecom providers without discrimination. This creates fair competition among telecom providers, offering end customers the best performance at the lowest costs.

Swiss Fibre Net AG is a consortium of local energy suppliers and cable network operators in Switzerland. It connects the local fibre optic networks of its network partners into the large-scale, homogeneous, and open 'Swiss Fibre Net' and offers it without discrimination to nationally operating telecom providers for use. Swiss Fibre Net AG, therefore, ensures competition in the telecommunications market.
