Particularly noteworthy is the condition of the 77-kWh battery: With 86 percent, the remaining capacity is clearly above Volkswagen's warranty promises. These stipulate that the battery should still have at least 70 percent of its original capacity after eight years or 160,000 kilometres. The test certificate also shows that over 75,000 kilowatt-hours have been charged, with less than 1.7 percent via direct current at fast chargers, but mainly via alternating current at the business premises or at home. This is likely one reason why the battery is in such good condition.
The long-term test thus shows: Even with very high mileage and intensive use, the battery remains powerful and reliable.
E-mobility in the everyday endurance test:
In everyday life, Nicolas Follonier drives the ID.3 an average of around 300 kilometres per working day or about 66,000 kilometres per year. The distance covered so far of 331,013 kilometres corresponds to more than eight circumnavigations of the Earth or approximately 1,100 trips between St. Gallen and Lausanne. Despite this exceptional strain, the battery still has a high capacity and performance substance. For Nicolas Follonier, choosing the ID.3 was both an ecological and economic decision. In addition to its high practicality, he particularly benefits from significantly lower operating costs. "Previously, my fuel costs were about 900 francs per month," he explains. Now, thanks to the solar system at the company headquarters, he charges a large part of his energy needs for free.
The long-term test experiences reinforce Follonier in his conviction: "You protect the environment, save money, and have more driving pleasure - I never want to go back to a combustion engine."
His goal is ambitious: he wants to continue driving the ID.3 as long as the battery allows it. The next milestone is already defined: half a million kilometres.
