Significant improvement in results and high operational efficiency
The strong results in 2025 reflect high occupancy, efficient operations, and strict cost control. EBITDA rose to CHF 7.9 million (previous year: CHF 4.2 million), corresponding to an EBITDA margin of 34.2 percent. Despite significantly higher event density, costs were further optimized in relation to revenue - among other things, the event expenditure decreased to 21.8 percent of revenue. Philipp Musshafen, Director of AG Hallenstadion, says: "With 110 events, we have managed a high organizational cadence and at the same time significantly increased sales and results. This is only possible thanks to well-rehearsed processes, high professionalism, and the great commitment of our employees and partners."
Top rankings in the European arena comparison
Internationally, the Hallenstadion was also able to further strengthen its position. According to international rankings from the industry magazine Pollstar, it ranks among Europe's top arenas for concerts in 2025, placing 4th in ticket revenue and 6th in visitor numbers. This positions the Hallenstadion ahead of many renowned major European arenas and confirms its attractiveness for international tours and promoters.
Value creation study shows the economic relevance of the Hallenstadion
A central topic of this year's general meeting is the value creation study carried out for the first time, commissioned by AG Hallenstadion together with the city of Zurich. The study, developed by the specialized firm Ernst Basler + Partner, analyzes the economic effects of the Hallenstadion from an average of the years 2023 to 2025. The results impressively demonstrate the significance of the Hallenstadion far beyond the event operation:
- Annual gross value added of CHF 186 million
- Of which CHF 69 million in the city of Zurich and CHF 57 million in the canton of Zurich
- 1,440 full-time jobs across Switzerland depend directly or indirectly on the operation of the
Hallenstadion each year
- Around 700,000 visitors per year, who additionally spend an average of CHF 53 per person in Zurich
besides attending events
- 73,000 overnight stays per year related to Hallenstadion events
The study describes the Hallenstadion as "strategically relevant infrastructure of national importance" for the economy, tourism, culture, and location attractiveness of the city and canton of Zurich. Dr. Balz Hösly, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AG Hallenstadion, remarks: "The results of the value creation study underline that the Hallenstadion is more than just an event venue. The arena is a significant economic and social catalyst for Zurich. This role is linked to a high degree of responsibility and requires targeted investments in the future and international competitiveness of our infrastructure."
In view of the increasing competition among major European arenas, AG Hallenstadion plans investments of around CHF 20 million by 2035 to further enhance the quality of the infrastructure as well as the safety and attractiveness of the arena. The goal is to establish the Hallenstadion as a preferred location for the long term and Zurich as a recognized destination for international top acts and major events. Besides its economic significance, the Hallenstadion is also a central place for communal experiences. In an increasingly digital world, live events are gaining importance as places of encounter, emotion, and identification. The vision "We stage great emotions" reflects the core of AG Hallenstadion's and its team's self-concept.
