07.10.2026, Vernier/Ostermundigen - It was another successful camping year. Due to exceptionally good weather conditions, TCS Camping is heading towards one million touristic overnight stays for the second time in its history. A further record number has been achieved this year: the 30,000 camping memberships mark has been surpassed.

2026 was characterized by exceptionally good weather conditions. Though the season is not quite over yet, TCS Camping's figures as of the end of September already surpass those of the successful pandemic year 2021. This marks the second year in the company's history with over one million overnight stays. 'Camping has long become an important pillar of tourism for Switzerland,' notes Oliver Grützner, CEO of TCS Camping, with satisfaction.

Weather ensures planning reliability

The popularity of camping was further enhanced by the extraordinarily good weather conditions. Already in the spring, just in time for the holidays, the weather showed its best side and paved the way for a strong start to the season. The summer months were characterized by a very long period of beautiful weather, which extended into a sunny and warm autumn. This offered guests planning reliability and positively impacted bookings. In some locations, this resulted in an increase in overnight stays of up to 30 percent compared to the previous year.

The hot summer also benefitted campsites in the mountains such as in Scuol, Flims, Olivone, or Interlaken. 'Many guests from Switzerland and abroad sought the coolness of the mountains during the high temperatures. This positively affected our demand,' explains Oliver Grützner. With 63 percent, the largest share of guests still comes from Switzerland, followed by Germany, the Netherlands, and France.

For most TCS campsites, the season ends in October. Five sites remain open in winter: Flims, Lugano-Muzzano, Olivone, Sion, and Solothurn. Exceptionally, the Samedan campsite will remain closed next winter due to renovation work.

Quality convinces over 30,000 camping members

The growing establishment of camping as a holiday form is also reflected in the number of TCS camping memberships. At the same time, investments in infrastructure and the quality of the sites are paying off. With an increase of 4.8 percent compared to the previous year, the mark of 30,000 members was cracked for the first time in September. Camping members benefit from up to 20 percent discounts on TCS campsites as well as breakdown and accident assistance for motorhomes up to 7.5 tonnes and trailers up to 3.5 tonnes.
