17.11.2025, Sven Lauber from Meinisberg (BE) celebrates the silver medal at the Independent Skills Championships Europe. The trained butcher EFZ delivered an outstanding performance in Butchery skill, narrowly missing out on the gold medal.

For three days, Sven Lauber gave his all at the Independent Skills Championships Europe (ISC-E) in Chur and successfully mastered various tasks. The well-deserved reward for three intense competition days and months of preparation is the silver medal he received yesterday, Saturday. He missed the gold by just a small margin, but second place is still an outstanding result. "We are incredibly proud of Sven's performance. The participants in the Butchery skill showed an exceptionally high level, which gives the championships and Sven's result special significance," says Martin Erlacher, Technical Delegate of the SwissSkills National Team, evaluating Sven Lauber's achievement.

The young talent from the Canton of Bern was supported during his competition in Chur by friends, family, and colleagues. Christian Rufer, trainer at Bigler Fleischwaren AG, where Sven Lauber completed his apprenticeship and still works, expressed the sentiment on behalf of many: "I was thrilled to accompany Sven throughout his apprenticeship, the Swiss Championships, and now at the ISC-E. We've grown into a really good team over this time."

Three more competitors in action

The silver medal won by Sven Lauber is hopefully just the starting point for more success stories from the SwissSkills National Team at the ISC-E. The next competitions in Salzburg start on Thursday. Renato Sonanini from Rain (LU) will compete in the Glass Construction Technology skill. The glazier EFZ won the gold medal at the SwissSkills Championships 2022. Nicola von Siebenthal from Gstaad (BE) will participate in the Metal Roofing skill. With a silver medal win last year at the SwissSkills Championships, the tinsmith EFZ secured his participation in the ISC-E. The Swiss team is completed by Tobias Hörler from Rorschacherberg (SG). He also won a silver medal at the SwissSkills Championships 2020. The stonemason EFZ will compete in the Architectural Stonemasonry skill.
