• Seven Renault 5 E-Tech electric vehicles operational with the Winterthur City Police
• Specially converted for police service and realised with regional partners
• Compact, manoeuvrable, and sustainable – ideal for urban use
"With the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, we're bringing an icon of the brand into the electric age – compact, efficient, and ideal for urban deployment. That the Winterthur City Police have chosen this vehicle shows: electromobility is now convincing not just in private use, but also in demanding public service. The new fleet stands for modern, sustainable mobility and a strong presence in everyday urban life," said Claudia Meyer, Managing Director of Renault Group Switzerland.
"The new vehicles perfectly match our requirements for city deployment. They are compact, emission-free, and quiet, ideally supporting our neighbourhood officers in their daily work. At the same time, they promote direct exchange eye to eye with the population and strengthen the community-oriented presence of our neighbourhood police," stated Anjan Sartory, Commander of Winterthur City Police.
The vehicles have been specifically converted for police operations. They are equipped with an integrated radio system and full signalling including blue lights, sirens, and rotating beacons, making them optimally suited for the everyday police routine. Marty Systemtechnik AG in Neuhausen handled the technical conversion. The Pearl White paintwork enhances the modern and clear appearance of the vehicles, while the graphics were realised by Indi Graphics in Oberwinterthur. The Winterthur City Police and the Hutter Auto Group, the Renault dealer in Winterthur, consciously implemented these adaptations with local partners.
The Renault 5 E-Tech electric was specifically developed for urban requirements, combining compact dimensions, high agility, and modern technology. With a length of 3.92 meters and a wheelbase of 2.54 meters, it offers the ideal balance between manoeuvrability in dense city traffic and comfortable space for daily use. The vehicles used by the Winterthur City Police are the Renault 5 E-Tech electric evolution with 120 PS and a 40-kWh Urban Range Battery, boasting high energy efficiency, short charging times, and modern assistance and connectivity systems. Additional comfort features include the winter package with heated seats, six-way adjustable seats for driver and passenger, and front parking sensors, making manoeuvring on narrow streets easier. A maintenance contract also ensures high operational security and planning.
"In daily operations, user- friendliness, manoeuvrability, and reliability are key. The Renault 5 brings exactly these qualities. We are delighted to be on the move with these vehicles in Winterthur's neighbourhoods," said Andreas Liechti, Head of Neighbourhood Police Winterthur.
The delivery of the seven vehicles underscores Renault's commitment to anchoring modern vehicle concepts in the public service – where they are used daily and create direct added value.
