25.11.2025, At the Independent Skills Championships Europe, the SwissSkills National Team celebrates three more medals in Salzburg. Sheet metal worker Nicola von Siebenthal (Gstaad, BE) wins gold, glazier Renato Sonanini (Rain, LU) secures silver, and stonemason Tobias Hörler (Rorschacherberg, SG) rejoices with the bronze medal.

The Independent Skills Championships Europe (ISC-E) have proven to be a complete success for the SwissSkills National Team. All four team members return home with a medal – an incredible achievement! After Sven Lauber from Meinisberg, BE, a specialist in meat processing, secured a silver medal last week for a successful start at the ISC-E, his three teammates from the SwissSkills National Team followed suit last weekend.

At the last European competitions of this year, Nicola von Siebenthal stood out. The sheet metal worker from Gstaad surpassed all European competition and celebrated becoming the European champion in the skill 'Metal Roofing'. 'The award ceremony was a wonderful moment, especially since my family, my girlfriend, and my boss traveled especially to be there,' said Nicola von Siebenthal. 'It's hard to put into words how it feels to be a European champion. For me personally, it's a nice confirmation of my work and effort, while it's also a thank you to my boss and my family who supported my participation in the ISC-E.'

Posthumous Medal

Furthermore, Renato Sonanini received a silver medal. The glazier from Rain secured this in the skill 'Glass Construction Technology'. The SwissSkills National Team's medal tally was completed by stonemason Tobias Hörler from Rorschacherberg (SG) with his third- place finish in 'Architectural Stonemasonry'. Additionally, there was positive news from the organizers of EuroSkills Herning 2025: The bricklayer Mattia Andrea Plattner from Aargau, who recently finished fourth in the skill 'Bricklaying', will receive a bronze medal after a post-event scoring correction, placing him in third.

Outstanding Record

As such, the SwissSkills National Team impressed at this year's European professional championships (EuroSkills and ISC-E), winning seven golds, five silvers, and four bronzes across a total of 18 skills. 'We look back with great pride at all the Swiss participants' achievements in this year's European competitions. These outstanding results have once again demonstrated that Switzerland possesses some of the best professional talents in Europe,' noted Martin Erlacher, Technical Delegate of the SwissSkills National Team. The upcoming year will be dedicated to the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, taking place from September 22nd to 27th. Currently, new members of the SwissSkills National Team are being selected. The WorldSkills campaign kick-off will occur in January 2026.
