29.05.2026, International rail traffic is gaining importance in light of the climate crisis, crowded airports, and rising flight prices. At the same time, it is often not easy for train travelers to navigate through the thicket of offers, booking platforms, and political frameworks. The current magazine of VCS Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz highlights in a special dossier why it is worth choosing 'Train instead of Plane' – and what is needed to make this climate-friendly choice easier.

The magazine dossier 'Love Greetings from Europe' makes it clear: those wanting to travel by train from Switzerland to European cities today find significantly more options than just a few years ago – but it also names the challenges. The magazine shows how these obstacles could be reduced and which traffic and climate policy decisions need to be made.

The dossier reports on an increasing number of direct day and night connections from Switzerland, such as to Italy, Germany, France, and soon also with night trains via Bern to Amsterdam and Brussels. Further contributions show how trains connect Europe: from the Eurotunnel to the future Fehmarnbelt Tunnel to new corridors like Rail Baltica, bringing regions closer together.

The VCS Magazine 2/2026 also offers practical tips on planning international train journeys and which night train routes are particularly attractive. Portraits of pioneers, experience reports, and references to helpful platforms and offers encourage consciously choosing the train instead of the plane for the next trip to Europe.
