03.03.2026, On average, women in Switzerland live to be over 85 years old, making them some of the longest-lived people in the world. Although statistically women live longer than men, aging processes manifest health- wise much earlier. For International Women's Day, longevity expert Larisa Schäfer advocates for rethinking female aging: not as a process to be cosmetically corrected, but as a matter of internal health and self-empowerment.

According to the BFS, women statistically live several years longer than men. However, biologically, women age faster. With the decline of estrogen around menopause, blood vessels lose elasticity, and the cardiovascular risk significantly increases. The skin also changes rapidly: in the first five years after menopause, women can lose up to 30 percent of their collagen, which is a structural protein that gives skin firmness and elasticity. Regeneration slows down, and inflammatory processes increase. Women may live longer, but whether they experience these years as energetic, resilient, and healthy is not a given.

'We talk a lot about life expectancy, but far too little about vitality expectancy,' says Larisa Schäfer, founder of the CRYODYNAMIC Longevity Institute.

Health begins with a decision.

Longevity today means not only living longer but spending mature years in top form. 'Many believe health is primarily dependent on genetics. This prejudice persists and is used as an excuse not to take life into one's own hands. But genetics is only a privilege, not the whole story,' says Schäfer. She adds, 'Even healthy people can become healthier. Longevity means taking responsibility for one's own quality of life.'

True beauty comes from within.

For Schäfer, longevity is not a lifestyle hype but an act of self-determination. 'Beauty doesn't begin with the skin—it begins with cellular metabolism. When vessels are healthy, inflammation is reduced, and the nervous system is regulated, radiance occurs automatically. True beauty comes from within— literally.'

Instead of short-term anti-aging promises, longevity measures focus on regenerative processes. Cryotherapy, for instance, activates the body’s own repair mechanisms, hyperbaric oxygen therapy supports cell regeneration, modern lymph systems relieve tissue and the immune system, and light therapy stimulates mitochondria—the powerhouse of the cells. 'We can influence biological age. Not completely control it—but significantly modulate and reduce it,' explains Schäfer.

A holistic health approach.

The CRYODYNAMIC Longevity Institute was born out of personal conviction. Founder Larisa Schäfer has been concerned with biohacking, stress resilience, and neurological regeneration for years—what began as self-optimization became a vision.

CRYODYNAMIC sees longevity as an interplay of innovation, awareness, and sustainable lifestyle. Together with her husband and co-founder Jörg Schäfer, CEO of Global TREE Project AG, health is thought of holistically.
