More and More Emergency Consultations
The emergency center at Zollikerberg Hospital provides 24/7 care to patients with medical emergencies. The center covers a wide range of health issues, many of which can be treated directly on-site by the medical team. For complex or severe medical conditions, the emergency team ensures initial treatment and organizes hospital admission as well as specialist further treatment. The number of patients presenting as emergencies has steadily increased over recent years, necessitating new treatment paths.
A New Treatment Path
The new 'Fast Track' targets patients requiring outpatient emergency medical care, for example, for the treatment of small wounds, assessment of sprained joints, or alleviation of cold symptoms. On a conventionally organized emergency department, these patients often face unpredictable waiting times because individuals with life-threatening conditions must be prioritized.
With the newly established Fast- Track rooms, a dedicated team of nurses and interdisciplinary emergency doctors, as well as a modern point-of-care laboratory for basic lab tests, this new treatment path is now available for patients with less severe but still urgent concerns, giving them priority.
No Appointment Needed
No appointment is necessary for the 'Fast Track', as a skilled triage by emergency experts is crucial. Every patient visiting the emergency department is promptly triaged as before. After an initial clinical assessment of their health status and symptoms, it is decided whether treatment in the 'Fast Track' is advisable or treatment in the main emergency area is required.
Strategic Importance
With the new 'Fast Track', Zollikerberg Hospital strengthens its interdisciplinary emergency center as a central pillar of its strategy, thereby expanding its services to ensure a swift, demand-oriented emergency care in the region. As a result, the people in the catchment area benefit from even shorter waiting times and greater care capacity.
Christian Etter, Hospital Director: 'With the Fast Track, we are responding to the rising demand in emergencies while simultaneously providing more quality and safety for all patients. Efficient processes and short waiting times are crucial to making emergency medicine fit for the future.'
