The monumental structure made from regional wood is designed as one of the largest walkable wooden constructions in the Alpine region. Inspired by the ESAF-Muni, the project adopts the symbolism of the bear as a defining element of the region and translates it into a contemporary architectural form.
A freely accessible installation is planned directly on the shores of Obersee, blending into the existing landscape and serving year-round as a place of experience and encounter.
Inside the structure, a staged experiential world is planned, bringing visitors closer to the habitats of brown bears in the Alpine region while simultaneously conveying the history and significance of Arosa Bear Land. Thus, a direct thematic and spatial connection is created between the existing offerings at Bear Land and the new landmark in the village center.
The implementation is scheduled to utilize wood from the region. The project exemplifies the connection between sustainable construction, regional value creation, and innovative tourism development in the Alps.
Construction is scheduled to start in May 2026. The realization is planned in stages over the summer season.
"With the walkable bear structure, we create a new iconic experience in the heart of Arosa. The project strengthens the connection to Arosa Bear Land and makes the theme of the bear tangible for our guests in a completely new way," says Marc Gooch, Head of Marketing & Communication at Arosa Tourism.
With the project, Arosa Tourism aims to further sharpen Arosa's positioning as an innovative year-round destination and provide additional impetus for tourism development.
