In his opening speech, President Boris Beuret looked back on an eventful year in 2025. In addition to political progress – such as the adopted motion to strengthen milk production in Switzerland's grasslands – developments in the milk market particularly shaped the year.
The significant increase in milk production, combined with limited processing capacities and challenging international conditions, led to considerable price pressure. The industry was forced to implement measures such as price adjustments and export solutions.
**Clear demands for more market stability**
In light of the current market situation, Beuret stressed the need for swift and decisive actions. In the short term, fair distribution of burdens, more transparency, and targeted market relief are necessary.
In the medium term, a more robust system should be developed, better aligning production and processing, and ensuring the long-term stability of the milk market. We expect solutions by autumn.
**Positive signals from the consumer sector**
Despite the challenges, there are also encouraging developments: Marketing Director Stefan Arnold highlighted that milk and dairy products are increasingly in demand again – particularly among younger and health-conscious consumers. Milk thus asserts itself as a sustainable and regional food with a future.
**Financing resolutions approved**
The delegates approved the unchanged contributions for representation of interests and the marketing contributions for milk (swissmilk) and cheese (SCM).
**New faces on the board**
Under the agenda item Elections, two new board members were elected: Vincent Gruet (Prolait) and Reto Schaufelberger (VMMO). Claude Bieri (LRG) strengthens the board as a new alternate.
**Expectations**
Under the agenda item Speeches, clear expectations were expressed by the delegates, regarding PFAS on one hand, and solidarity and transparency on the other.
