The central focus of the meeting with Juice founder and CEO Christoph Erni was the exchange of ideas on portable charging solutions and the prospects of expanding engagement in North America. Juice has already established a subsidiary in the USA five years ago. Under the brand J+, the company distributes a series of devices specifically tailored to the North American power grid.
Michigan: The Heart of the U.S. Automotive Industry in Transition
Michigan is a key market: The state, with around ten million residents and an economic output that regularly ranks among the top 15 in the USA, is considered the heart of the American automotive industry. With General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis (Chrysler), Michigan is home to the three largest U.S. car manufacturers. At the same time, the state is among the pioneers in the transition to electromobility. The shift to zero-emission vehicles is one of the most important growth drivers of the regional economy.
Since the beginning of her term, Gretchen Whitmer has pursued a consistent e- mobility strategy. This includes targeted support programs for jobs in the EV sector as well as the transition of the state vehicle fleet to zero-emission drives – by 2033 for light-duty vehicles and by 2040 for medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
Mobile Charging Infrastructure as a Pioneer for Transformation
Christoph Erni emphasizes the special role of portable charging solutions in this transformation process: “Juice is a pioneer in mobile charging. With our portable wallbox J+ BOOSTER 2 and the unique variety of adapters, you can charge at practically any power outlet – at home, at work, and on the go. Our devices are dubbed the Swiss Army Knife of charging technology for a reason. They make electromobility immediately usable, under high safety standards, at manageable costs, and without structural measures.”
“In Juice's international research and development center in Switzerland, I was able to get a personal impression of the innovative charging technology already in use in Michigan,” said Governor Whitmer. “We will continue to foster cooperation with our international partners to bring projects and well-paid jobs from leaders in modern production and mobility to Michigan. Our state is leading in automotive expertise, research and development, as well as industrial manufacturing – and we are determined to further expand our strengths as a leading global location in mobility.”
The visit underscores the high importance of international partnerships in the mobility sector. For Juice, the dialogue with Michigan – the epicenter of the U.S. automotive industry – opens up new perspectives, particularly in the fleet environment of administration, industry, and commerce. At the same time, it becomes clear: The future of electromobility is being created where innovative pioneers, established OEMs, and committed political leadership jointly create the prerequisites for real change.
