The new special collection 'The Most Beautiful Summer Documentaries' on Play Suisse invites viewers to embark on journeys of discovery into foreign worlds. From Nepal to Tarasp
The special collection tells stories from near and far.
In 'Oltre la luce' by Stephan Chiesa, the protagonist Daniele joins forces with three ETH students in Nepal. They plan to build a hydroelectric power station to supply six remote villages in the Himalayas with electricity. The project also grows into a human challenge, as nothing goes according to plan.
In 'The Secret of Bern' by Stascha Bader, the focus is on the federal city and its significant role in dialect music. Bader embarks on a kind of musical investigation, delving far into the past of Bernese musical tradition. His research develops into a journey to the roots of Swiss identity.
In the film 'Overrun - Overtourism in Switzerland,' Jörg Huwyler examines booming tourism in Switzerland. He accompanies an Asian tour group in Central Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland, documents the daily work of a train attendant, and shows a village that is overrun following a Netflix series. Huwyler mostly filmed with his own iPhone, allowing him to blend into the tourist group and get closer to the travelers.
The film 'Castle Tarasp' by Susanna Fanzun and Oliver Conrad centers on the eponymous castle. Managed over three generations by the director's family, a new chapter began in 2016 with artist Not Vital. The director tells the story of the centuries-old castle, complemented by animated elements.
Two Biologists Reintroduce the Osprey to Switzerland
A notable highlight of the collection is the documentary 'Le retour du Balbuzard' by Stephan Rytz. The film follows biologists Wendy and Denis as they take on the ambitious task of reintroducing the disappeared osprey to Switzerland. Over a century ago, the majestic bird retreated to more northern regions of Europe. In particular, forestry and industrial development led to its local extinction. In the film, Wendy and Denis seek the help of an expert from Scotland who supports their endeavor.
