The Swiss vehicle market continued its downward trend in 2025, falling around 2 percent lower than the previous year. In total, 233,737 new passenger cars were registered – well below the level of a 'normal' car year with 300,000 and more units.
In this environment, not only did the AMAG Group's brands gain market shares, but they also increased in terms of units.
In the field of electric cars, the AMAG Group further expanded its leading position: With 16,508 electric vehicles sold, the AMAG brands achieved a market share of 31.0 percent among passenger cars.
Helmut Ruhl, CEO of the AMAG Group: 'Besides the technological shift, the declining market poses great challenges for the industry. That we were still able to grow highlights the strength of our products and brands, our strategic clarity, the commitment of our partners in trade and service, and the trust of our customers.'
Overall, the AMAG Group looks back on a good business year 2025 with a turnover of 5.0 billion Swiss francs. It also confirmed its role as one of the largest employers and one of the largest training companies in Switzerland with 7,500 employees and around 800 apprentices in 2025.
Volkswagen Brands – New Cars and Used Cars Volkswagen has been the market leader in Switzerland for over a quarter of a century. With 25,607 vehicles sold in 2025 and an increase of 1,535 units (+6.4 percent), along with a market share increase of +1.0%, Volkswagen enlarged the gap to the second place and is the most purchased car brand in Switzerland for the 27th time in a row. Thus, Volkswagen confirms its clear growth path. Skoda achieved a record market share of 9.5 percent (+0.7 percent) reaching second place for the first time in 2025. Audi follows in 5th place, while SEAT/CUPRA round off the strong overall result of the Volkswagen brands in the Swiss brand ranking in 7th place.
With the Tiguan, the AMAG Group also provides the most purchased car in Switzerland. With 5,181 registered units, it is the brand's most popular model.
In the TOP 10, six of the best-selling vehicle models in general and six of the best-selling purely electric vehicles come from the AMAG Group. In addition, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is once again the market leader in the light commercial vehicle segment up to 3.5t with a market share of 21.3 percent.
New Electric Models Open Up Additional Segments
The next growth spurt for electromobility is enabled by the Urban Electric Car Family with a variety of new models in additional segments – including vehicles with new as well as familiar names like the VW ID. Polo, the CUPRA Raval, or the Skoda Epiq. The new generation of small electric cars combines affordable prices with European production, making electromobility even more attractive.
New Charging Solution and 28-Cent Tariff
With the new charging solutions from the AMAG Group, charging is easier than ever: Customers have access to around 20,000 charging stations in Switzerland and well over 1,000,000 charging points throughout Europe. The initially limited offer for charging at 28 cents per kilowatt-hour at selected locations in Switzerland is being extended and expanded for customers with vehicles introduced by AMAG Import AG – in many cases, this is cheaper than charging at home. This offer is particularly attractive for companies and frequent drivers who need to charge on the road.
Consistently Successful in Leasing
The leasing portfolio of AMAG Leasing AG recorded moderate growth compared to the previous year by the end of 2025. In January and October, AMAG Leasing AG issued two senior unsecured bonds of 250 and 150 million francs, respectively. Additionally, two green bonds with a total volume of 280 million francs were placed in September. This creates essential conditions for further business development.
In line with 'Leasing as a Service,' AMAG Leasing also took over the handling of leasing processes for Porsche from Porsche Financial Services Switzerland AG.
Further Expansion of Photovoltaic Systems
In the past year, Helion Energy AG, part of the AMAG Group, constructed photovoltaic systems with a total output of 52.4 GWh – including large installations for Aldi, the Gotthard Arena, and ASTRA near Yverdon. As a result, all systems ever installed by Helion produce nearly 290 percent more electricity than all electric cars ever imported by the AMAG Group consume. Helion also installed numerous fast-charging stations for the Migrol Group, further contributing to the expansion of the charging infrastructure in Switzerland.
Helmut Ruhl, CEO AMAG Group AG: 'We expect transformation- supporting framework conditions from politics. The decided and discussed flexibilities in the EU are moving in the right direction. To achieve Swiss climate goals, expanding the charging infrastructure in cities, implementing the resolutions of the National and Council of States Assembly for easier access for tenants and condominium owners to charging solutions, and refraining from further taxation of electromobility are necessary measures. Transformation is a collective task.'

The AMAG Group and its employees ensure with passion that people are well on the move. The individual wishes and dreams surrounding mobility fascinate us. Our drive is to fulfill them. This attitude has accompanied AMAG from the very beginning of the company to this day.
The VW Beetle, first imported in 1948, made owning a car affordable for ever-broader sections of the population. Dreams became reality. People's horizons expanded – and they enjoyed it to the fullest. All of this, and the rapidly rising mobility needs with the economic growth of the 60s and 70s, was foreseen by our founder, Walter Haefner. Thanks to his visionary strength, he succeeded in shaping AMAG into the largest automotive company in Switzerland.
Today, the AMAG Group is a comprehensive and nationwide well-positioned mobility provider. We sell high-quality automobiles, ensure their operation in all situations, and enable people to fulfill their mobility dreams with our own leasing company and additional services (including car sharing, rental vehicles, and parking offers). Our focus is the customer, always and everywhere. Car drivers and business clients trust AMAG because we continuously positively surprise them with excellent service beyond quality and expertise.
