20.01.2026, In 2025, the Swiss Museum of Transport recorded over one million entries for the third consecutive time. Despite a challenging start to the year, the result ranks among the best over the last 20 years and was particularly driven by a strong second half. As a significant extracurricular learning venue in Switzerland, the museum also recorded 60,612 entries from students.

The year started challenging in the first half. As the year progressed, a noticeable revival in demand was noted. July marked the most successful month in the history of the Swiss Museum of Transport. The positive development in the second half is attributed by the management to several recent openings, including the newly designed Rail Hall and the exhibitions "Really – Fact, Fake, or Opinion. Find Out" in collaboration with SRG SSR and "MovAbility – Barrier-Free Travel" with partner organizations. In addition to new exhibitions, the museum also engaged as a partner of the Ark Nova music project and supported the Lucerne Festival in planning and implementation.

The cinema theater also held its own in the challenging market environment. Contrary to the nationwide trend of the cinema industry, the figures from the previous year were almost maintained. Strong year-end numbers, especially driven by high audience productions like Avatar and Downhill Skiers, contributed to this result.

Director Martin Bütikofer summarizes the year's results as follows: "The repeated surpassing of the million mark shows that the Swiss Museum of Transport is reaching a broad, cross- generational audience with its current exhibitions. Critical to the success in 2025 was the second half of the year, where our investments in new offers and partnerships were clearly noticeable." Bütikofer will hand over the directorship to his successor, Martin Ettlinger, at the end of February, marking a positive conclusion to his approximately 16-year tenure.
