18.03.2026, The brain is vital and must be protected—not only during sports and leisure activities, but also at work. As part of the prevention campaign 'Protect your Brain—Protect your Life!', FRAGILE Suisse, in collaboration with the Occupational Safety Consultation Office (BfA), Building Materials Suisse (BMS), and Mips, raises awareness among construction workers about the importance of wearing helmets in the workplace.

5,000 people in Switzerland suffer a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury each year. Such brain injuries can have serious consequences—among those under 45, traumatic brain injuries are the leading cause of death. The Suva reports about 12,000 head injuries annually, many of which occur on Swiss construction sites. Numerous injuries could be prevented through proactive measures, notably proper helmet usage, including fastening the chin strap.

'I would give anything to be able to work in construction again.'

This is what Peter B. says, who suffered a skull fracture and severe traumatic brain injury as a result of a work accident. As part of the 'Protect your Brain—Protect your Life!' campaign, he shared his personal experiences with other construction industry employees during a safety training session.

FRAGILE Suisse, the Swiss organisation for people with brain injuries and their relatives, conducts this nationwide campaign with a current focus on helmet use. To achieve this, they collaborate with the Occupational Safety Consultation Office (BfA), Building Materials Suisse (BMS), and the Swedish company Mips, which specialises in helmet safety and brain protection.

Through this cooperation, all those who pass the heavy machinery operator training receive a set of personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes ear and sun protection, as well as a safety helmet with an integrated brain protection system for industrial helmets (Mips). Additionally, some 70 branches display a sample safety helmet from the Swedish company 'Guardio' with the Mips brain protection system, along with information about FRAGILE Suisse.

A nationwide sensitisation for brain injuries

FRAGILE Suisse's campaign not only focuses on the safety of construction workers but also on broader public education about brain injuries and their consequences.

In line with this, FRAGILE Suisse has also released new public service announcements about helmet use. With the publication of these free ads, media outlets can also support the 'Protect your Brain—Protect your Life!' prevention campaign.
