Software development and artificial intelligence are central action areas in Abraxas' corporate strategy. The Solution Engineering division, with its current approximately 110 employees, plays a key role. Simon Spalinger, a leader with more than two decades of experience in software development, technology expertise, and corporate management, as well as proven AI expertise, will take over leadership of the division.
The board of directors of Abraxas appointed Simon Spalinger as Head of Solution Engineering and member of the executive board as of mid-August. As a current member of the Abraxas board, he has been familiar with the strategy, clients, and the company Abraxas itself very well since 2024. A rapid and seamless takeover of operational responsibility is thus ensured. Spalinger will succeed Peter Gassmann, who, as announced, will leave the company at the end of July 2026, effective August 10.
"The public sector needs secure and sovereign AI solutions. With Simon Spalinger, we have gained an expert for this key topic at Abraxas, who will continue the successful development of the Solution Engineering division and provide new impulses for our wide-ranging AI activities," says CEO Reto Gutmann. Last year, Abraxas specifically expanded its activities in the field of artificial intelligence, including an AI consulting team, a sovereign AI platform, and the first AI-assisted solutions for the public sector.

52-year-old Simon Spalinger hails from Marthalen (ZH), is a Software Engineer ETH, and has over 20 years of experience in the IT industry. He held various leadership roles at Avaloq, founded the Solution Architects Group AG, and most recently the AI company RWAI. Since 2024, he has been a member of the board of directors of Abraxas. For compliance reasons, he has now stepped down from this body.
