In autumn 2009, during his own chemotherapy, Tobias Lehmann decided not to withdraw. Instead, he wanted to inspire other cancer patients. Thus, in April 2010, 'Stars for Life' was born – initially without sponsors and without a clear concept, but with a lot of heart and energy. At the first event, more than 7,000 Swiss Francs were raised for the benefit of the Swiss Cancer League.
An Impressive Donation Sum for Cancer Patients
From this spontaneous idea, a long-term project developed: 14 charity games in Düdingen and further ones in Herisau, Arosa, and Biel. More than 300 well-known personalities from sports, culture, and politics have participated so far. Thanks to Tobias Lehmann's great commitment, 'Stars for Life' has raised over 400,000 Swiss Francs to date, alongside many in-kind donations.
Winter Sports Weeks that Inspire Hope
Tobias Lehmann is particularly passionate about the winter sports week for children and young people affected by cancer. 'Stars for Life' funds these events, which have been held multiple times in Arosa and Laax—in close cooperation with the Grisons Cancer League. For the young participants, these days mean a lot of joy, community, and light-heartedness. What remains are experiences from which everyone involved can benefit for a long time.
A Movement of Solidarity
Christoph Kurze, board member of the Swiss Cancer League and managing director of the Grisons Cancer League, honours the awardee at the event on Sunday: 'Tobias Lehmann has turned a personal experience into a movement that provides hope far beyond sports. His energy, openness, and immense commitment touch people across Switzerland. Thanks to him, those affected experience genuine solidarity, community, and strength. It is an honour for me to present the Cancer Medal to him.'
Ceremonial Award Presentation at the 'Stars for Life' Event
The award ceremony will take place on November 23rd during this year’s 'Stars for Life' event—where it all began. This year too, a match full of emotions and commitment is expected.
Media representatives who wish to attend the event or conduct an interview with Tobias Lehmann are asked to register by Friday noon at media@krebsliga.ch.

Cancer: today, the disease seems less threatening than it did ten years ago. Treatment options are continually improving, and hope is growing. Patients are taking charge of their fate, and the effectiveness of cancer prevention is undisputed.
For a world where fewer people get cancer. This is possible if people maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
For a world where fewer suffer from the consequences of cancer. This too is possible: Today, pain and physical suffering can be alleviated.
For a world where patients and their relatives receive care and assistance at all stages of the disease and in dying.
