For many years, FIA Region I, in collaboration with ARC Europe, has invited its member clubs to participate in the 'Road Patrol Training for Excellence'. The event offers breakdown assistance specialists a unique opportunity to deepen their technical skills and exchange knowledge on new vehicle technologies. Additionally, after a series of tests, the 'Road Patrol Team of the Year' is selected. This year, the TCS Driving Training Center in Cossonay in the Canton of Vaud hosted the teams for four days of exchange and evaluation.
Demanding tasks
Each two-member team had the opportunity to showcase their skills during the competition. The program included three theoretical and six practical tests. In the practical tasks, each problem had to be solved on a vehicle within twenty minutes – from small electric cars to large sedans and motorcycles.
Teams from 16 European clubs participated in the competition. In the end, the Belgian team emerged victorious. The TCS, represented by patrol members Pius Kramer and Stefan Überschlag from the Zurich region, accompanied by their technical trainer Reto Sandmeier, achieved a respectable 6th place. After several weeks of intense preparation, they mastered the challenges with discipline and team spirit. Although the TCS did not win the title this year, our patrol members demonstrated their high level of training and the competence of the Swiss breakdown service.
Partners in Europe
The 21st edition of the 'Road Patrol Training for Excellence' once again highlights the close collaboration and friendship between the European mobility clubs united in FIA Region I and ARC Europe. 'I am very pleased that TCS had the honour of hosting the competition this year. I also congratulate the winners and all participants for their commitment. This event emphasizes the goal of strengthening the quality and reliability of breakdown services in Europe by promoting training and knowledge exchange,' said Peter Goetschi, Central President of TCS and Vice President of FIA Region I.
The partner clubs support each other to assist their members when traveling abroad. Thanks to these agreements, holders of the TCS-ETI protection certificate benefit from comprehensive and coordinated breakdown services when traveling in Europe, enabling uninterrupted mobility.
